"I can't remember when I started," she recalls in a recent radio interview, "I was so young, and I would watch music videos and try to mimic the moves." This early fascination laid the foundation for her future as a dancer. While a brief foray into ballet didn't quite stick, her passion for movement remained.

A pivotal moment arrived when she encountered the dynamic world of waacking. "There was a guy named Slash," she shares, "He was an amazing wacker, and he would teach me the fundamentals, the basics. I fell in love with it." Inspired by legendary figures such as Leslie "Hottpants" Jones, Lorena V, Rudy Smith, and Michelle "Mich Mich" Nunez, Shanny J immersed herself in the style, tirelessly honing her skills through workshops, countless hours of practice, and dedicated study of online resources.

"Being a female dancer is a risk," she acknowledges, "especially in a style like waacking, which has its roots in queer culture."
